Recently completed is kids' book number six, "Milly”.

 

Growing up in the warm shallows of the Myall Lakes, it is discovered by her friends that Milly has the amazing ability to leap higher and longer than any other mullet in the lake.

Champion leaping mullet come from far and wide to challenge Milly for the honour of “Highest and Longest Leaper” in an exciting competition organized at Mungo Brush.

 

As Milly grows, the time comes for her and her friends to swim out of the lake into the open ocean, where danger awaits. Milly uses her special skills to protect all the other mullet in the travelling school.

Intertwined throughout the story is a factual account of the life cycle of mullet that swim northwards, in huge schools, in an annual movement of fish up the eastern coastline around Easter.

The book is brilliantly illustrated by leading local artist Megan Barrass.
